Closed Sea

A closed sea is a body of saltwater surrounded by land. It has only one or very few connections to open oceans, meaning that water exchange with the oceans is limited. This can result in unique and fragile ecosystems within closed seas. Some notable examples include the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and the Baltic Sea. Closed seas are often important for fishing, transportation, and tourism, but they can also be vulnerable to pollution and overexploitation.
