In 1951, a small French village called Pont-Saint-Esprit experienced a mass poisoning incident that left hundreds of people sick and several dead. The cause of the outbreak was never definitively determined, but many believe it was the result of a CIA experiment gone wrong. The CIA was experimenting with a chemical warfare agent called LSD at the time, and some believe that the agent was accidentally released into the village's water supply. The symptoms of the outbreak were consistent with LSD poisoning, and the CIA has never been able to provide a satisfactory explanation for the incident.
