The Plantagenets: The Wars of the Roses

The Plantagenets: The Wars of the Roses was a series of civil wars in England fought between two branches of the royal House of Plantagenet, the House of Lancaster and the House of York, from 1455 to 1485. The wars were a power struggle between the rival factions, each claiming the right to the English throne. The conflict began with the deposition of King Henry VI of Lancaster by Richard, Duke of York, in 1460. The wars were characterized by numerous battles, betrayals, and changes in allegiance, and had a devastating impact on England, leaving the country weakened and divided. The wars finally ended with the victory of Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, who became King Henry VII and founded the Tudor dynasty.
