The Turks Enter Anatolia

The Seljuk Turks, fleeing from the Mongols in Central Asia, entered Anatolia in the 11th century. They established Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate in Konya, bringing Turkic peoples into Anatolia for the first time. The Seljuks were eventually absorbed by the Beyliks, small principalities established by Turkish tribes and nomads. The Beyliks initially acknowledged the Seljuk Sultanate's suzerainty, but they gradually achieved independence. They continued to expand and consolidate their territories in Anatolia, eventually leading to the rise of the Ottoman Empire.
