The White Helmets

The White Helmets, also known as the Syrian Civil Defence, are a volunteer organization operating in opposition-held areas during the Syrian Civil War. Since their inception in 2013, they have gained international recognition for their heroic efforts in rescuing civilians from the rubble of buildings destroyed by airstrikes and other attacks. Despite operating in extremely dangerous conditions, the White Helmets have saved thousands of lives, earning them numerous accolades, including the Right Livelihood Award in 2016 and nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.
