Churchill and Roosevelt's Gentlemen's Agreement

Churchill and Roosevelt's Gentlemen's Agreement, reached during World War II, was a verbal understanding between British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt regarding the post-war division of power and influence in the Balkans. The agreement, which was never formalized in writing, gave the Soviet Union a sphere of influence in Eastern Europe, while the Western Allies would have control over Western Europe. The agreement was controversial, with some believing that it gave too much power to the Soviets, while others felt it was necessary to prevent a prolonged war. Ultimately, the agreement was never fully implemented due to the Cold War, and the Balkans remained a source of tension between the superpowers for decades.
