Muammar Gaddafi was a Libyan revolutionary, politician, and military officer who served as the de facto leader of Libya from 1969 to 2011. He was known for his eccentric and controversial behavior, as well as his authoritarian rule. Gaddafi's rule was characterized by economic stagnation, political repression, and human rights abuses. He was overthrown in a civil war in 2011 and killed by rebel forces.
