Edward Vii - The Playboy King

Edward VII, the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, ascended to the British throne in 1901 at the age of 59. Known for his extravagant lifestyle and numerous mistresses, Edward earned the moniker "The Playboy King." Before his coronation, Edward's reputation for womanizing and gambling led to public disapproval. However, his easygoing nature and dedication to modernizing the monarchy helped him gain popularity during his reign. Edward's reign, known as the Edwardian era, was marked by political and social changes, including the rise of the Labour Party and the suffragette movement. His death in 1910, just nine years into his reign, left a void that was filled by his son, George V, who ushered in a more conventional and restrained era for the British monarchy.
